HCIC 2004 Winter Workshop > Recreation

The schedule of the HCIC Winter Workshop is designed to allow many opportunities for recreation. Long lunches on Thursday and Saturday allow for Nordic Skiing or other activities. Friday's schedule ends at 11:30 so you can have a full afternoon of fun. You are "on your own" for Friday's dinner--participants usually go in groups to one of the many restaurants in Winter Park.

Nordic Skiing

The Nordic Ski Center at Snow Mountain Ranch has over 85 kilometers of groomed trails. With spectacular views of the Continental Divide and the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, the trails offer something for everyone - from those who are just getting started to Olympic athletes. There is a variety of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain, plus access to back-country skiing for off-track enthusiasts. The trails meander through open meadows, virgin stands of fir, aspen groves and forests of lodgepole pine. The Nordic Center offers a complete line of rental equipment and has professional ski instruction and coaching services available. Activities also include snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating, and night skiing on a lighted 3K loop. For more information, visit the Nordic Center web site.

Alpine Skiing

Alpine Skiing is available at the SolVista Golf and Ski Ranch in Granby, and the Winter Park/Mary Jane Ski Area. SolVista is located about 5 miles away and is primarily a beginner/ low intermediate area. Winter Park and Mary Jane are about 12-15 miles away. Winter Park has the full range of ski slopes and Mary Jane is primarily for advanced skiers.
